September 2011 Another Year Starts for Sileby Photographic Society Having
just been appointed President it is my pleasure to welcome members old and
new to another programme of varied photographic activities. I am fortunate
to take up my appointment at a time when the Society is moving from strength
to strength and I hope that working together we can maintain this momentum
through the coming season and beyond. I
encourage all members to participate fully in our activities and take
advantage of the many opportunities to submit work to the exhibition and the
various competitions. Please do not be put off entering competitions because
you fear your work may not be good enough or may be heavily criticised. It
is true there can be only one winner of a competition but in truth there are
no losers. Everyone benefits from having their work commented on by an
experienced judge whose remarks are invariably helpful and constructive
rather than critical. We have a new Panel Competition which is specifically
designed to enable everyone to enter no matter what their experience or
equipment. If
you are not a member but have been given this programme why not come along
on a Monday evening to one of our regular meetings. If you visit us for the
first time I guarantee it will not be long before you are engaged in
conversation and made to feel welcome. September 2011 Sileby Photographic Society
Members' Galleries Re-launched 28 December 2009 Phil
Walker Phil's funeral took place on
Friday 8 January 2010 at St Gregory's Church in Sileby. Phil was a member
of St Gregory's for many years and it was good to see well over 100 of his
relatives and friends present at the service, which preceded his cremation in
Loughborough. The family requested that donations be made to charities in lieu
of flowers; the selected charities were the British
Heart Foundation and the Stroke
Association.
June 2009 A Historic Moment ...
... and A New Venue
From the start of the new season in September we will be moving to an exciting new venue. We have secured use of the Sileby Community Centre in High Street. It's the converted church near the corner of High Street and Brook Street. Parking is available in the main village car park behind Tesco and is accessible from King Street, on the right just before the railway bridge. We also have a new start time, gathering at 7.30pm for a 7.45 start. Finding us is easy; the interactive Google Map map here will help you.
2 August 2007 Sileby Photographic Society Wins Lottery Bid
We have been awarded a little over £4100 by the Big Lottery Fund to purchase digital AV equipment for the club. We are buying state-of-the-art projection and sound equipment; there will be a chance to see it in action at our normal meetings, at a special show of interest to local residents (details to be announced soon) and at our Annual Exhibition. The equipment has been supplied by a very helpful company, Just Projectors of Maidenhead.
