Annual Exhibition 2011

The club holds an Annual Exhibition of members' work. The 57th Annual Exhibition was held between 17th and 22nd October 2011 in the Sileby Community Centre in High Street (see here for directions).

With almost 250 prints and over 150 projected images on display, this year proved to be another bumper year for entries.  Quantity was not at the expense of quality; our improvement in standards year-by-year shows no signs of abating.  Such is the diversity of interests from within the membership, that there was something for everyone, whether it be a landscape or cityscape from a far-off country, a studio portrait or a fast-action sports picture. There was a particularly strong showing of natural history work again this year, all of a very high standard.  The number of visitors through the door was also comparable with recent years.

The unenviable task of judging this year’s Exhibition was kindly undertaken by Rob Palmer ARPS AFIAP, and we should like to thank Rob for the time and effort he put in, to what is a very difficult job. The quality of the work this year will have made his job even more difficult.

Our Feature Show this year was entitled ‘The Four Seasons’ and showed us how varied are the seasons and highlighted the things that we should be looking out for in nature, heritage and our environment in general. It was very well received and will be retained in our library of Exhibition Slide Shows, which are shown to organisations around the Midlands and even further afield. To find out about these shows and many others, including details of how to book a showing, click here.

On the Sunday before the Exhibition, members rally round to set up the panels and make the venue ready for our visitors.  Once the Exhibition is under way, members and visitors alike can enjoy the work on display.  The images below show a small selection from the exhibition.  The first one shows Colin Machin, our President for 2009-2010, showing Leicester Forest's winning panel of prints to the then Mayor of Charnwood, Roy Brown, who formally opened the 2009 Exhibition whilst the second one shows a general view of our hall.

This Exhibition would not have been possible without the efforts of members of our Society and the support of the catalogue by our advertisers. Thanks go to all, but in particular we would like to thank our Exhibition Coordinator Alun Williams , and Competition Secretaries Kevin Blood and Gianpiero Ferrari.  Thanks also go to Pamela Dargie, who badgered local businesses into parting with their money to sponsor our Exhibition.

If you didn’t manage to make it to this year's Exhibition, why not pop along to our Monday evening meetings?  You are more than welcome, and who knows, you could be exhibiting your own pictures in next year’s show.  You can find details of our programme by clicking here.
